VISO partners with acclaimed MRSA Architects to create stunning lighting solutions, including 2 custom crystal chandeliers, for the renovation of the 77 West Wacker Building in Chicago.
Working with MRSA Architects, the Chicago based architectural design and planning firm, VISO delivers two stunning custom crystal chandeliers for the project. Our popular ULEE light fixtures are also used to create a gorgeous and bright interior for the building.
Project Goals
The objective was to move the conference center, previously located on the top floor, to the mezzanine area. The client also wanted to make use of the extra space that was currently under-utilized in the building and create a tenant lounge for everyone to enjoy.
Design Inspiration
The building was originally built in the early 1990’s and housed the corporate offices for United Airlines. As such, the interior design was very dark and formal. In contrast, the exterior of the building is bright and modern. The idea was to bring that modernity into the interior and brighten up the space. To do that, MRSA had to strip off much of the heavy wood to open up the area. They also built a separation with new materials to modernize the interior. A media wall was installed to create a contemporary room which doubles as a presentation and entertainment space.
VISO Design Solution
Working collaboratively, VISO Design Studio designed and manufactured two large custom chandeliers using 8”/200mm x 1”/30mm frosted crystals around the circumference of each ring. The larger chandelier features 5 suspended crystal rings with the largest ring measuring 120”/3048mm in diameter. Acting as the anchor piece in the tenant’s lounge, the chandelier brings a sparkle and openness to the space.
The second custom crystal chandelier consists of two suspended crystal rings with the larger ring measuring 72”/1829mm in diameter. Located at the entrance of the building, this is one of the first things visitors will see.
Along with the 2 custom crystal chandeliers, 46 of VISO’s popular Ulee fixtures of different sizes adorn the ceiling of the common area, bringing to life the client’s vision of light and sparkle for the building.
